Zion National Park, Utah
I took this shot just as the sun was starting to set behind the mountain. I was crossing a pedestrian bridge and the light reflected a picture that looked like a painting.
Zion National Park is a southwest Utah nature preserve distinguished by Zion Canyon’s steep red cliffs. Zion Canyon Scenic Drive cuts through its main section, leading to forest trails along the Virgin River. The river flows to the Emerald Pools, which have waterfalls and a hanging garden. Also along the river, partly through deep chasms, is Zion Narrows wading hike.
This is one of the most beautiful National Parks I’ve visited during my travels on this planet. It’s surreal natural beauty, enormous rock formations, sweeping vistas, and ancient rivers make you realize how we should honor these sacred treasures. When Covid19 hit us the park started having issues with graffiti. One of the Narrows guides posted on his FB the extent of damage caused by graffiti over a mile long down the canyon. We should be protecting our public lands not destroying it. It is there to conserve and not damage the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. We have a responsibility to educate people on @leavenotrace
You are a public land owner, do your part and help protect Americas National Parks. For 100 years, the National Parks Conservation Association has been the voice of America’s national parks. Nonprofit and nonpartisan, #NPCA and its 1.3 million members and supporters have worked to define the very standard of what it means to be a national park and fought tirelessly on the ground, in the courtroom and on Capitol Hill to preserve it. From Yellowstone to Gettysburg to the streets of Birmingham, NPCA advocacy has played a leading role in both protecting existing public lands and leading the charge to set aside new, vital locations that tell a more complete American story.
"Here is your country. Do not let anyone take it or its glory away from you. Do not let selfish men or greedy interests skin your country of its beauty, its riches or its romance. The World and the Future and your very children shall judge you according to (the way) you deal with this Sacred Trust."
Theodore Roosevelt, 1907
